The Carolina Carriage project develops a residential renovation and mass timber addition in Greenville, South Carolina, using design as a tool to explore formal, spatial, and tectonic relationships. Grounded in site constraints, survey data, and existing conditions, the work integrates the owner’s program with solid wood building systems.

A new three-bay garage with an integrated loft/workshop serves as the primary intervention and a case study for mass timber construction, utilizing systems such as CLT panels and glulam framing. The addition is paired with a broader rethinking of the site, including updated circulation, landscape design, and the introduction of outdoor living elements such as a pool and hardscape.

The project is developed through drawings, digital models, and physical study models, allowing ideas of structure, material, and space to be tested and refined in parallel. Early decisions around construction methods, material systems, and scale position mass timber as both a structural framework and an architectural driver.

Carolina Carriage is currently under construction- as the project advances, watch for updates on the website and our Instagram.
