Work In Progress - [WIP] -
Currently in design, the GFC project reimagines the Georgia Forestry Commission’s field facility as a long-span mass timber structure integrating a Maintenance Facility, Ranger Offices, and an Innovation Space. Developed for the Georgia Forestry Commission, the work explores a regionally driven material strategy—sourcing timber from Georgia lands, milling it within the state, and manufacturing mass timber components across the Southeast.
Atelier Mey, in collaboration with Britt, Peters & Associates, is advancing the concept design for a future site in rural Georgia. The project builds on the Commission’s standard program—office, maintenance, and equipment storage—while rethinking it through a mass timber or hybrid system capable of achieving efficient, flexible long-span interiors.
Conceived as an evolving prototype, the project positions the building as both infrastructure and demonstration—testing the integration of forestry, manufacturing, and design within a single regional supply chain. Design is ongoing, with further refinements to the structural approach, material economies, and the technical development of the building assemblies underway.
